Changes to the contribution rate
If you are an active member, for pensionable service earned on or after April 1, 2018, you will contribute a flat 8.35 per cent of salary.
Your new contribution rate means a higher lifetime pension benefit once you turn age 65; you will receive a 1.85 per cent accrual rate for service on and after April 1, 2018.
For comparison, the member contribution rate for pensionable service until April 1, 2018 depends on how much of your salary is below and above the year’s maximum pensionable earnings (YMPE). For 2017, YMPE was $55,300.
